Bitcoin Rebounds to $63K Amid Asian Market Turmoil
Bitcoin's partial recovery to $63,000 comes as a sharp selloff grips major Asian equity markets

Quick Summary
Bitcoin rebounded 3% to $63,168, reclaiming the $63,000 level after a 15% weekly decline driven by ETF outflows, Strategy's BTC sales, and U.S.-Iran tensions.
South Korea's KOSPI plunged more than 8% at Monday's open, triggering circuit breakers, as semiconductor stocks including Samsung and SK Hynix led the selloff.
Bitcoin, Ethereum, and the broader cryptocurrency market staged a notable rebound late Sunday night, clawing back significant ground following one of the most turbulent trading weeks of the year. The recovery materialized against a backdrop of cascading declines across Asian equity markets, with South Korea's benchmark KOSPI index plunging more than 8% when markets opened Monday morning.
Bitcoin climbed 3% to $63,168 in the 24-hour period ending at 10:25 p.m. ET on Sunday. Ethereum posted a sharper gain of 6.5%, rising to $1,687, while Solana added 4.7% to reach $66.30. The rally followed a week in which bitcoin shed roughly 15% of its value, touching its lowest level in more than two months.
A Classic Oversold Relief Rally
Market analysts characterized bitcoin's recovery as a textbook technical rebound rather than a fundamental shift in sentiment. Min Jung, associate researcher at Presto Research, described the move as a "classic oversold relief rally," noting that the magnitude of the prior week's selloff had left the market structurally ripe for a short-term reversal.
"Bitcoin's roughly 5% rebound this morning may be partly due to the market becoming oversold after last week's sharp selloff," Jung said. Despite the partial recovery, bitcoin remained down 15% on the week and continued to underperform several traditional risk assets, suggesting that a significant portion of recent negative developments had already been priced in.
The prior week's decline was driven by a confluence of headwinds: substantial outflows from cryptocurrency spot exchange-traded funds, renewed selling pressure stemming from Strategy's bitcoin liquidation, and sustained geopolitical tensions between the United States and Iran that weighed on global risk appetite.
Saylor Signals Potential Fresh Bitcoin Purchase
Adding a measure of optimism to the recovery narrative, Strategy Chairman Michael Saylor posted the company's bitcoin acquisition tracker chart on Sunday morning alongside the caption "A good time to add more dots," a phrase widely interpreted by market participants as a signal that Strategy intends to disclose a fresh BTC purchase in the coming days.
South Korea's KOSPI Triggers Circuit Breaker
Bitcoin's recovery unfolded in parallel with a severe rout in South Korea's equity market. The KOSPI fell more than 8% at the open on Monday, forcing circuit breakers to halt trading temporarily as losses accelerated. Semiconductor stocks bore the brunt of the selloff, with Samsung Electronics declining 7.3% and SK Hynix shedding 4%.
The declines were not confined to South Korea. Japan's Nikkei 225 fell 4%, Taiwan's TAIEX dropped 4.25%, and the Shanghai Composite retreated 1% as broadly negative macro sentiment weighed on regional markets. Analysts attributed the selloff to mounting concern over a prolonged U.S.-Iran conflict, persistently high oil prices, and rising expectations of a Federal Reserve interest rate increase.
Diverging Views on the Link Between Equities and Crypto
While the simultaneous equity decline and cryptocurrency rally raised questions about a potential capital migration from regional stocks to digital assets, analysts expressed skepticism. "The KOSPI's plunge didn't cause bitcoin's rebound, but it highlights the same macro forces driving risk markets," said Dominick John, analyst at Zeus Research. "Equities were pricing in fear, while bitcoin benefited from a deeply oversold setup, short-covering, and renewed institutional optimism."
Presto's Jung echoed that view, noting that any influence from the KOSPI's decline on bitcoin's recovery was marginal at best, given that much of the weakness in crypto markets had already been absorbed over the weekend prior to the equity market open.
Key Support Level Under Watch as Macro Risks Persist
Geopolitical pressure intensified over the weekend as Iran launched a fresh round of ballistic missiles at Israel, triggering retaliatory airstrikes and further complicating U.S. diplomatic efforts in the region. The escalation reinforced concerns that global risk appetite could remain suppressed in the near term.
Despite the uncertain environment, some analysts maintained a cautiously constructive outlook. "Bitcoin holding above the key $60,000 support zone keeps the bullish structure intact and signals that the broader uptrend is still in play, with room for further upside if momentum holds," John said. "The main risk remains external, as rising geopolitical tensions or weakening macro conditions could easily pressure well-established support levels and shift market sentiment quickly."
