Quick Summary
Paystand has launched USDb, a US dollar-backed stablecoin built on Bitcoin-linked rails including Rootstock, designed for enterprise payments such as accounts receivable, payroll and treasury operations.
The stablecoin is compatible with Bitcoin-based networks including the Lightning Network and Liquid, and will roll out across Paystand's payments network, which has processed more than $20 billion in volume for over one million businesses.
Paystand has launched USDb, a US dollar-backed stablecoin built on Bitcoin-linked infrastructure, targeting enterprise use cases including payroll, accounts payable and treasury operations. The announcement marks the latest development in a growing wave of corporate stablecoin adoption as businesses seek faster, lower-cost alternatives to traditional payment rails.
Built on Bitcoin Rails
USDb is issued on Rootstock, a Bitcoin-linked sidechain, and interoperates with infrastructure from Blockstream. The token is backed 1:1 by US dollar reserves and is designed to be compatible with Bitcoin-based networks including the Lightning Network and Liquid. Ibex will serve as the initial minting partner and liquidity provider.
The stablecoin will roll out first across Paystand's existing payments network, which the Santa Cruz, California-based company says has processed more than $20 billion in volume for over one million businesses across North America and Latin America. The token is built to integrate with enterprise finance systems, including ERP-ledger mapping, and supports automated settlement workflows.
Cross-Border Payroll Through Bitwage
USDb will be used within Paystand's existing products, including cross-border payroll through its Bitwage platform, with plans to expand access to additional partners and customers in 2026. Bitwage, a workforce payments platform Paystand acquired in 2025, serves more than 90,000 workers and 4,500 businesses across nearly 200 countries.
Stablecoins Push Into Corporate Finance
The launch comes as stablecoins gain traction across a broad range of corporate payment use cases. DoorDash recently announced a partnership with Tempo to enable stablecoin payments for drivers and merchants across more than 40 countries, citing faster payouts and lower cross-border costs. Western Union has also confirmed plans to launch its own US dollar-backed stablecoin, USDPT, in May, issued by Anchorage Digital on the Solana blockchain.
Paxos also announced an integration with Toku this week, enabling users to earn yield on stablecoin salaries held in payroll wallets without moving funds off-platform. The feature supports USDC, USDT and USDG across Toku's payroll network.
A $320 Billion Market Expanding Its Reach
The global stablecoin market is currently valued at approximately $320 billion, dominated by Tether's USDT at around $189.7 billion and Circle's USDC at roughly $77.7 billion, according to DeFiLlama data. Supply remains concentrated on a handful of blockchains, with Ethereum accounting for approximately 52% of the market, followed by Tron at around 28%.
For Paystand, the launch of USDb represents a strategic move to deepen its position in enterprise finance at a time when stablecoins are transitioning from niche trading instruments to mainstream corporate payment infrastructure. With binding regulatory frameworks now taking shape across the United States and Europe, the conditions for institutional stablecoin adoption are becoming increasingly favourable.
