Quick Summary
Paystand has launched USDb, a US dollar-backed stablecoin built on Bitcoin-linked infrastructure including Rootstock, designed for enterprise payments across accounts receivable, payable, payroll and treasury.
The stablecoin is compatible with Bitcoin-based networks such as the Lightning Network and Liquid, and will roll out across Paystand's payments network, which has processed over $20 billion in volume for more than one million businesses.
Paystand, a blockchain payments company headquartered in Santa Cruz, California, has launched USDb, a US dollar-backed stablecoin built on Bitcoin-linked infrastructure. The token is designed for enterprise use, covering accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll and treasury operations across Paystand's existing payments network.
The stablecoin is issued on Rootstock, a Bitcoin sidechain, and interoperates with infrastructure from Blockstream. Ibex will serve as the initial minting partner and liquidity provider. USDb is backed 1:1 by US dollar reserves and is designed to be compatible with Bitcoin-based networks including the Lightning Network and Liquid.
Built for Enterprise Finance
Paystand's payments network has processed more than $20 billion in volume for over one million businesses across North America and Latin America. USDb will roll out first within this network, with plans to expand access to additional partners and customers throughout 2026.
The token is built to integrate with enterprise resource planning systems, including ERP-ledger mapping, and supports automated settlement workflows. Cross-border payroll will be handled through Bitwage, a workforce payments platform Paystand acquired in 2025, which serves more than 90,000 workers and 4,500 businesses across nearly 200 countries.
Stablecoins Move Into the Corporate Mainstream
The launch of USDb reflects a broader shift in how businesses are approaching stablecoins. Once confined largely to trading venues and retail remittances, digital dollar tokens are increasingly being adopted for payroll, vendor settlements and cross-border transfers at the corporate level.
DoorDash recently announced a partnership with Tempo to enable stablecoin payments for drivers and merchants across more than 40 countries. Western Union has indicated plans to launch its own dollar-backed stablecoin, USDPT, in May. Paxos, meanwhile, has integrated its Amplify platform with Toku to allow users to earn yield on stablecoin salaries held in payroll wallets.
A $320 Billion Market and Growing
The global stablecoin market is currently valued at approximately $320 billion, according to data from DeFiLlama. Tether's USDT leads with roughly $189.7 billion in supply, followed by Circle's USDC at approximately $77.7 billion. Supply remains concentrated on a small number of blockchains, with Ethereum accounting for around 52% of the market and Tron holding approximately 28%.
By building USDb on Bitcoin-linked rails rather than Ethereum or Tron, Paystand is positioning the token within a distinct infrastructure layer, one that aligns with the growing institutional interest in Bitcoin as a settlement network. The move also differentiates USDb from the majority of enterprise stablecoins currently in circulation.
Bitcoin Infrastructure Gains Enterprise Traction
Rootstock, the Bitcoin sidechain on which USDb is issued, enables smart contract functionality while inheriting Bitcoin's security model. Blockstream's Liquid Network, with which USDb is designed to be compatible, is a Bitcoin sidechain focused on fast, confidential transactions for financial institutions and exchanges.
The Paystand launch adds to a growing body of evidence that Bitcoin's secondary layers are attracting serious enterprise interest, not merely as speculative instruments, but as practical infrastructure for business finance. As regulatory frameworks for stablecoins continue to take shape across major jurisdictions, the conditions for broader corporate adoption appear increasingly favorable.
